Job Summary

We are looking to appoint a highly enthusiastic domestic assistant to join our team at Hexham General Hospital, working in our new Operating Department. The working hours are between 7am and 8pm with various shift patterns. Effective written and verbal communication skills are essential. Previous domestic experience is essential; experience within the healthcare setting is desirable.

This vacancy will be closed once the required number of suitable applications have been received.

Main Duties
  • Clean operating theatres and surrounding department using specialised equipment (scrubber, pick up, buffer) and renewing disposables where necessary.
  • Act as porter to take patient to and from operating theatres as necessary.
  • Clean floor areas scheduled by vacuuming, mopping, buffing and spray cleaning.
  • Undertake deep cleans in areas where infection is present.
  • Remove rubbish including domestic and clinical waste from designated areas to disposal point.
  • Clean sanitary areas: toilet, sinks, shower cubicles and staff changing areas.
  • Damp dusting of all surfaces, ledges, shelves, curtain rails.
  • Clean internal glass, take down and put up curtains, scheduled cleaning of chairs, wash walls shoulder height, fit and windows where required.
  • Use all equipment and materials safely.
  • Report all faults, queries or problems to the Department Manager.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and carry out any urgent spot cleaning and spillage.
  • Participate in training programmes: efficiency, fire drills, hygiene, health and safety regulations.
  • Any other duties as deemed appropriate.
