Job description

We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Senior Temporary Works Engineer to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will ensure the safety, stability, and compliance of all temporary works across a diverse range of projects. You will manage the temporary works process from design through to execution, provide expert technical guidance, and mentor junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and assessment of complex temporary works schemes, including scaffolding, falsework, formwork, propping, excavation support, temporary bridges, crane bases, and hoarding.

Ensure all temporary works designs meet legislation, industry standards (e.g., BS 5975, Eurocodes), and company safety protocols. Conduct risk assessments and maintain the Temporary Works Register.

Serve as Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) or Supervisor (TWS) as needed. Review, check, and approve designs from internal teams, subcontractors, and external consultants.

Provide technical guidance on site, resolve design queries, address issues, and carry out inspections to ensure compliance with approved designs and safe installation practices.

Work closely with project managers, permanent works designers, subcontractors, clients, and regulatory bodies to integrate temporary works seamlessly into project plans.

Identify opportunities for design improvements, value engineering, and innovative temporary works solutions that enhance efficiency and safety.

Maintain accurate design calculations, drawings, method statements, and inspection reports.

Support and mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.

The ideal candidate
  • Proficient in structural analysis and design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, structural analysis packages).
  • Strong knowledge of British Standards, Eurocodes, and best practices for temporary works (including BS 5975:2019).
  • Sound understanding of construction processes, site operations, and safety protocols.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for articulating complex technical information.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and proactive risk management approach.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under pressure while maintaining high standards.

This role can be based from any of our regional offices: Southampton, Bristol, Rugby or Nottingham
