Overview

Technical Director - Town Planning role at Arcadis. Arcadis is a leading company delivering sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy solutions for natural and built assets.

Role description: As part of a growing and agile Environmental Planning team, this position leads environmental and consenting aspects of projects, with a focus on building and growing teams. The role is part of the leadership for the Planning and Environmental Assessment and Management (PEAM) Team and involves integrating environmental input within the Planning process.

Responsibilities
  • Lead recruitment, growth, bidding, and project delivery; oversee key Clients
  • Coordinate and deliver planning/environmental work by multi-disciplinary teams; influence project development; deliver optimal environmental and planning outcomes
  • Support business development through external market activities and engagement with key clients
  • Raise awareness of services, win new opportunities, and build new contacts
  • Engage with key client relationships; create cross-selling opportunities for the wider business
  • Engage with consultees and stakeholders
  • Manage projects; oversee performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety aspects
Qualifications & Experience
  • Excellent working knowledge of the UK Planning system and consenting process, including EIA practices and procedures, case law; understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and environmental technical specialisms
  • Experience across a range of project types
  • Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills; ability to review others’ work to ensure quality
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary coordination and leadership of projects; good project management and technical skills
  • Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders
  • Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management and quality assurance
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification; preferably chartered status or working towards
  • Flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative approach to work
  • Experience in the delivery of DCO/TWAO/Hybrid Bills
  • Full Member of RTPI
