What You'll Be Doing?
The Design and Technical teams are involved in all aspects of housing design and innovation. This team is also responsible for researching the best materials at the best cost. We work on a variety of sites, many using existing buildings, each with unique problems. We consider new materials and drive sustainability, value and compliance with changing building and environmental legislation.
The team members largely have architectural or engineering backgrounds. Everyone gains expertise in design and project management within a thought‑provoking setting.
Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will coordinate external design consultants, obtain building control approvals, discharge planning conditions, procure mains services, provide Construction Issue drawings for site starts, and support site operations.
Responsibilities
- Obtain technical drawings and approvals for efficient site starts
- Minimise risk through timely, high‑quality information
- Brief, manage and drive external consultants to prepare and issue production information on agreed programme, fee and scope
- Assist in preparing Design Programmes and present at Progression Meetings
- Ensure all statutory enquiries, sewer connections and other relevant legal agreements are submitted and pursued for timely completion
- Oversee NHBC/Building Regulations applications to approval
- Ensure working drawings comply with the approved Planning Scheme and discharge planning and building control conditions; monitor production information with the Commercial Department to maintain cost control
- Monitor and control the Professional Fees budget and update fee reports monthly
- Ensure Group Policy and Procedures are fully managed and controlled
- Oversee preparation and approval of Brochure Plans, Conveyance Plans and Sales Area drawings
- Attend site progress meetings and conduct site inspections
- Attend and present at various project meetings (Land/Technical hand‑over, Project Meeting, Optimisation, Progression, Technical/Sales, Budget Meetings, etc.)
- General liaison and coordination between internal and external parties
- Attend subcontractor interviews and meetings where appropriate
- Respond to site queries and resolve technical/construction problems
- Issue drawings and information for construction purposes
What You’ll Need
- Qualified as a Civil / Building Engineer or a construction‑related degree holder, or have attained HNC/HND in a built‑environment subject with relevant experience
- Good technical knowledge of house and apartment construction
- Working knowledge of Building Regulations, NHBC, Party Wall Awards and related legislation
- Ability to work collaboratively with strong communication, meeting and management skills
- Problem‑solving skills with a speedy, effective approach
- Capacity to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
- Desire to exceed customer expectations
- Excellent communicator at all levels, internally and externally, with high attention to detail
- Competent IT skills including AutoCAD/Revit
