A leading field service management provider in the UK seeks a Technical Author to own documentation for specific products. The role requires at least two years of experience in technical writing and a strong background in user-focused documentation. Key responsibilities include reviewing existing content, creating new documentation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams. You will be part of a team that values documentation and offers growth opportunities. Join us in making a meaningful impact in the field service industry.
The way the world delivers field services is changing fast—and Totalmobile is right at the centre of that change. As the UK’s #1 Field Service Management provider, we support more than 1,000 organisations and 500,000 mobile workers with software that keeps essential services moving. From utilities and local authorities to healthcare and infrastructure, our technology helps people do vital work better.
Every day, thousands of people rely on Totalmobile's software to deliver critical services to communities. From keeping vulnerable people safe to making sure frontline workers can do their jobs efficiently, our technology sits quietly in the background, making complex things work smoothly.
But great software is only as good as the understanding behind it. That’s where this role comes in.
Over the last year, our Product Documentation team has been on a transformation journey. We’ve introduced a new authoring tool, launched a brand-new public documentation site, redesigned and standardised release notes, and moved away from Confluence to give our content the version control and consistency it deserves. The response from customers and internal teams has been hugely positive.
As a Technical Author at Totalmobile, you won’t just be writing what already exists. You’ll own documentation for specific products end-to-end, taking the time to truly understand how they work and how people use them in the real world. You’ll review and restructure existing content, turn complex technical detail into clear, accessible guidance, and create new documentation that keeps pace with a fast-moving SaaS environment.
You’ll work closely with developers, product managers, QA, support teams and subject matter experts, often seeking out information rather than waiting for it to land in your inbox. You’ll help establish our documentation as a genuine single source of truth, enabling customer self‑service and reducing pressure on support teams.
This is a hands‑on content‑focused role for end users, designed to let you do what you do best: write, refine, organise and improve.
We’re looking for a Technical Author with at least two years’ experience in a technical writing or similar role, and a strong background in creating clear, user‑focused documentation for software applications. You’ll have a solid understanding of the documentation development lifecycle (DDLC), exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, and a sharp eye for detail and grammar. A strong technical aptitude is essential, enabling you to quickly grasp complex concepts and explain them in a clear, accessible way for end users. You’ll be confident using help authoring tools such as MadCap Flare, comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with cross‑functional teams, and able to thrive in a fast‑paced environment. Excellent organisational and time‑management skills will allow you to effectively prioritise multiple tasks and deliver high‑quality documentation to deadline.
You’ll be joining a team where documentation is valued, invested in, and already making a visible difference. You’ll have the space to influence how products are documented, the support of experienced peers, and the satisfaction of knowing your work directly improves customer experience.
This is a mid‑level role with the opportunity to grow alongside a business that’s solving meaningful, real‑world problems with technology.
If you believe great documentation deserves a seat at the table, we’d love to hear from you.
