Job description

Working as part of the Social Inclusion Team, the role will deliver the Thr1ve project which aims to unlock potential and raise aspirations of children in care. Thr1ve is a collaborative programme delivered by three established organisations – Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation, Blackburn Rovers Community Trust and Chesterfield FC Community Trust.

The delivery will focus on high-quality, engaging and supportive one-to-one mentoring sessions. Your role will be to offer personalised and holistic support to build motivation and confidence for change. Following mentoring sessions, participants will have the opportunity to join weekly Thr1ve groups whereby young people will be encouraged to explore their interests, develop new skills and build lasting relationships with their peers. This will increase their involvement in their local community.

The role will also support the delivery of Premier League Kicks Programme.

Job Description
  • Plan, prepare and deliver a range of one-to-one mentoring sessions to children and young people who are referred to our Thr1ve project. These sessions can take place in various settings such as school or community venue.
  • Build positive, trusted relationships with young people through implementing early and responsive intervention based on individual needs, following their interests and personal strengths.
  • Be a positive role model for children and young people and provide non-judgemental support and respecting diversity and lifestyle choices.
  • Support individuals to create a personal action plan and set achievable goals.
  • Be a friendly source of information about wellbeing, independent living skills and resilience.
  • Build and sustain partnerships with local organisations and services to receive appropriate referrals.
  • Work with other multi-agency organisations to provide wrap-around support for the young person and their family.
  • Create and sustain partnerships with local schools and organisations to provide suitable exit strategies for participants – encourage young people to become involved in community-based activities.
  • Support and encourage children and young people (of your caseload) to access Premier League Kicks on an evening.
  • Support with the delivery of other programmes/sessions across Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation which includes some evening and weekend work. Examples include Premier League Kicks, Match Day and Holiday Camps.
  • Undertake administrative tasks and communicate with different stakeholders.
  • Work with the Thr1ve Social Prescribing Senior Team to plan and undertake continual personal and professional development, taking an active part in reviewing and developing the role and its responsibilities.
  • Support with the data collection with support from your Line Manager and the Data and Impact Coordinator.

  • Adhere to health and safety requirements with support of your Line Manager and the Health and Safety Manager.

About The Candidate
Personal Specification
Experience
  • Experience and/or understanding of basic youth work practices, including youth work and one-to-one mentoring as well as group activities
  • Experience of working with children and young people in care setting
  • A passion for improving and opportunity of young people from high-need areas and/or under-represented groups
  • Ability to communicate with young people, schools and partner agencies
  • Knowledge and awareness of transition periods in young people’s lives
  • Experience supporting young people who are not in education, employment or training
  • Experience of supporting and developing links with parents/carers/families and other agencies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of supporting independent living skills
  • Experience in managing caseloads
Qualifications
  • A good standard of general education including high level literacy and numeracy skills
  • Level 2 Youth Work Qualification or willingness to work towards
  • Level 2 Effective Mentoring or willingness to work towards
  • Emergency First Aid Certificate or willing to work towards
  • Trauma-Informed Practice Training or willingness to work towards
  • FA Safeguarding Children Course or willingness to work towards
  • Youth Mental Health First Aid Certificate or willing to work towards
  • Level 1 or above Sports Coaching Qualification from a recognised National Governing Body (e.g. FA Introduction to Football/UEFA C Licence) or willingness to work towards
  • Creating Safe Spaces Training
  • Level 3 Youth Work
Specific Skills and Knowledge
  • Knowledge safeguarding responsibilities linked to youth work practice
  • An ability to work independently being a self-starter and proactive, working and thinking creatively and taking initiative towards inspirational, motivating delivery
  • Ability to listen, empathise and give individualised support/advice
  • Experience in collecting data
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible and adaptable delivery approach
  • A willingness to work as part of a Team and contribute to both the Social Inclusion Team delivery and wider Middlesbrough Football Club Foundation operations

  • Understanding how health, social, economic and environmental factors can impact young people and their communities
  • IT skills, to include knowledge of using a variety of software packages including word processing, spread sheets and databases
Additional Requirements
  • A flexible approach to working hours to include evening and weekend work and ability to work/visit a variety of locations other than immediate workplace on a regular basis
  • A valid driving licence, with access to own transport including business insurance and willingness to travel within the Tees Valley
  • Be eligible to work in the UK
  • A satisfactory enhanced DBS check will need to be completed
