Job summary

A local support service in Bristol is seeking female Support Workers/Personal Assistants to help a lady in her 30s access the community. Responsibilities include assisting with outings and personal care. Flexible scheduling is available to align with UWE timetables. Ideal candidates will have experience in care work and a good command of English.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Care Work would be an advantage.
  • Confidence in communicating with a non-verbal person is essential.
  • Training in Manual Handling and Epilepsy will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Support a lady in accessing the community.
  • Assist with personal care as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with the lady during outings.

Support Worker/Personal Assistant (2 positions)

Duties
  • You will be supporting a lady in her 30s to access the community and have fun.
  • This will include shopping trips, visits to local attractions such as The Wild Place or We The Curious.
  • There will be evening shifts which could include events taking place at this lady’s church or music gigs or meals out with friends.
  • Once you are more confident you will be taking this lady out on day trips which might include bus journeys or train trips.
  • Hopefully you and one other carer will be taking her for weekends away.
  • There will be some personal care involved.
  • You will also need to give her drinks and food during your shift.
  • You will need to be confident to communicate with someone who is non-verbal.
  • As you will be travelling with this lady you will need to have a good command of the English language and knowledge of the UK.
  • A Full DBS Police Check will be required.
Skills and Experience
  • Experience in Care Work would be an advantage but paramount.
  • Manual Handling Training will be required and we can provide this through South Glos.
  • Epilepsy Training will also be provided by South Glos Council.
  • All other training will be provided on the job by family.
  • You will be given shadow shifts until we are all confident that you can work on your own.
  • For day trips etc you will be working with another Personal Assistant (2:1).
  • You will need to be relatively fit as you will be pushing a wheelchair during your shifts.
  • Please note that we are only looking for female carers.
Hours

Hours will average out to 20 hours per week during term time.
