Job summary

An educational institution in Solihull is seeking a Student Support and Attendance Officer to monitor student attendance, assist tutors, and provide pastoral support to students. The ideal candidate will have previous administrative experience, preferably within an educational setting. The position is full-time, office-based, and offers a salary of £12.90 – £13.20 per hour.

Student Support and Attendance Officer (term time only)

Contract: Starting ASAP until December 2025, potentially longer

Salary: £12.90 – £13.20 per hour

Hours: Monday to Friday, 37 hours

Location: Office based Solihull

Background Check: Enhanced DBS check required before commencement

Description: Support tutors in monitoring and tracking full‑time student attendance and punctuality. Provide pastoral support to students who struggle with attendance or are at risk of failing their course.

Key Duties Of The Student Attendance Officer
  • Support students in maintaining high attendance levels and ensuring they remain on course and are successful
  • Assist tutors in tracking and following up on student attendance on a daily basis
  • Maintain a reporting system concerning student attendance and behaviour
  • Act as a link between tutors, students and parents
  • Monitor and work with students whose attendance falls below agreed levels
  • Drive the disciplinary process, ensuring all relevant paperwork is completed in a timely manner
  • Attend monthly risk meetings and complete the at‑risk register
  • Provide a first point of contact for students/parents reporting absence
  • Undertake all mandatory training (e.g., Safeguarding, Prevent)
Key Skills/Experience Required
  • Previous administrative experience
  • Experience within an education setting (strong advantage)
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Experience using Microsoft Office applications (Excel and Word)
