A leading manufacturer in Dumfries is seeking an experienced HSE Manager to oversee health, safety, and environmental compliance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The HSE Manager is the primary contact for all Health, Safety and Environmental matters onsite.
Must be certain that all operational systems and procedures adhere always to ISO 9000 and ISO/TS16949 standards and any other established company or industry quality standards. Maintain compliance with ISO14001, ISO18000, ISO50001, Environmental and Health & Safety accreditation.
Will maintain and review HSE policies to ensure the company is compliant with all relevant health, safety, environmental legislation and corporate policy while updating management of changes that may affect the company and their individual responsibilities.
To prepare and report on site KPI’s relating to e.g. accidents, incidents, risks and statistics, as dictated by external bodies and by Gates HSE Excellence, and drive improvement in results where necessary.
Internal day to day with local team and site managers, and available for discussion with any level of employee on HSE related queries.
Has direct contact with the HS & E Coordinator for Europe. Direct contact through E-mail with all other local HS & E Coordinators in Europe. External contacts include Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Glasgow, the Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), the Local Environmental Authority in Dumfries, Trading Standards, Scottish Water and BSI.
To liaise with the enforcing authorities, develop and maintain a good working relationship with them. As the Management Representative onsite for ISO 14001, OHSAS 45001/PPC will be responsible for developing and updating policies in line with these standards and being the point of contact with relevant auditing authority, ensuring readiness and translation of audit requirements into a schedule for site assessments.
Will also support the DOFO and Operations Manager and wider teams in effective operation of the ISO 50001 standard. To review onsite training material and where necessary conduct basic awareness training in relevant health, safety and environmental matters for all employees. Ensure the safe evacuation of all personnel in any major incident and assist in the investigation to establish the cause and prevent a recurrence.
The incumbent has a direct line of responsibility to the DOFO, Dumfries. There is also functional reporting to the HSE Manager, Europe.
Receives support from two formally trained part-time COSHH Representatives.
Has the authority to bring to management’s attention any non-conformances relating to HS & E that may require immediate improvement or corrective action.
