Are you ready to take your litigation skills to the next level? Join our team as a Fast Track Specialist File Handler and make an impact in a challenging, rewarding role.

As a Specialist Handler you will handle litigated delegated and non‑delegated motor instructions on behalf of key insurer clients and the MIB. You will need to impress the client with your legal knowledge and provide clear, unambiguous advice on strategy for bringing a claim to resolution. A clear view of relevant case law and appropriate evidence is required.

The role involves handling cases for the MIB and other insurers. You must recognise cases with a technical bias, understand the Uninsured Drivers and Untraced Drivers Agreement, and determine whether the MIB, a contractual insurer, an RTA insurer or an Article 75 insurer should pursue a claim. You will also handle multi‑party claims.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review files and abide by Client Guidelines
  • Apply litigation knowledge, CPR Rules and court procedures
  • Formulate initial and ongoing strategy, considering fee structures
  • Draft reports confirming strategy and agree on approach with the client
  • Prepare legal documents and comply with court orders/deadlines
  • Track overall spend on a claim (fixed fee or hourly rate)
  • Undertake negotiations with third‑party solicitors
  • Liaise with insured parties, insurers and brokers as necessary
  • Ensure actions are carried out per action lists in the Case Management System
  • Attend court hearings
  • Delegate relevant tasks to paralegals
  • Accurately record time and management information
  • Process bills in accordance with client guidelines
  • Maintain files within ISO 9001 guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with SRA standards and regulations

Working Hours
35 hours per week, Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm with 1 unpaid hour for lunch. Primary location is Bolton, Parklands Office.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Sound, practical experience handling Fast Track RTA litigated files; evidence of managing own case load and reporting
  • Understanding of indemnity and/or the MIB is beneficial
  • Drafting of legal documents, including defences, applications, witness statements, Part 35 questions, Part 18 questions
  • Liaison and drafting instructions to counsel
  • Experience of managing fixed fees whilst delivering quality
  • Strong telephone negotiation skills
  • Proficient IT skills: Word, Outlook, case management systems, preference for paperless work
