Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Solutions Architect with a proven track record of designing, implementing, and delivering large-scale digital and cloud-based solutions within the UK Central Government. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical expertise with deep knowledge of government service design, security standards, and architectural governance. You will shape end-to-end solution designs that align with organisational strategy, comply with government digital and security standards, and enable efficient delivery of citizen-facing and internal services.
Key Responsibilities
- Define, design, and deliver end-to-end solution architectures for digital and cloud transformation programmes within central government departments.
- Ensure solutions adhere to Government Digital Service (GDS) principles, the Technology Code of Practice, and NCSC security guidance.
- Collaborate with Delivery Managers, Business Analysts, Service Designers, and Technical Leads to translate business requirements into robust, scalable architectures.
- Lead architectural governance, producing HLDs, LLDs, data flow diagrams, and integration designs.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to ensure solutions align with open standards, interoperability, and value for money.
- Provide technical assurance and guidance across delivery teams, ensuring architecture supports Agile and DevOps ways of working.
- Drive adoption of cloud-native, reusable, and secure solutions (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including APIs, microservices, and containerised platforms.
- Support risk, compliance, and assurance activities to meet government security classifications (OFFICIAL, SECRET, TOP SECRET).
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a Solutions Architect in UK Central Government projects.
- Strong understanding of GDS standards, Service Design, and Agile delivery frameworks.
- Expertise in cloud architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid environments.
- Experience designing and integrating APIs, microservices, data platforms, and secure digital services.
- Familiarity with ITIL 4, TOGAF, or equivalent enterprise architecture frameworks.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and the ability to present complex solutions to both technical and non- technical audiences.
