Job description

For over 100 years, we’ve continued to evolve and adapt. Today, as the nation’s number one motoring organisation, we offer a range of excellent products and services to millions of customers from roadside assistance to home and motor insurance as well as providing the latest driving technologies. As we continue to expand, diversify, and modernise, joining us as Signs Installer, you’ll play a key part to our success and join us on this exciting motoring journey.

This is the job

As an AA Signs Installer, you will be installing and removing AA signs and traffic management equipment for events and working either alone or as part of a team. You’ll always go the extra mile for our customers.

In return, we’ll go the extra mile for you, with a comprehensive one-week induction in Oldbury, West Midlands, with all expenses covered, followed by a period of on-the-job training, which will prepare you for life on the road.

You’ll be part of a national team helping thousands of motorists find their way with clear recognisable, temporary directional signs and our traffic management service. You’ll be supporting some of the UK’s best and largest events, installing and removing instantly recognisable signs.

There will be opportunities and requirements to work away from home at various events around the country, with a minimum of 12 days away each year. Rest assured, all of your accommodation and expenses are covered!

What will I be doing?
  • To have a full category B driving licence with no more than 6 points on your licence
  • To be physically fit enough to carry out a role that involves daily heavy lifting of signs and equipment of up to 25kg
  • To be comfortable working with and adapting to new technology
  • To be comfortable working from a ladder at the roadside; up to a height of 3.5 metres.
What do I need?
  • A self-starter: You will be content working independently, but occasionally may be required to collaborate with the team, driving to different locations in all weathers supporting larger events.
  • An Organiser: You’ll be checking the signs and traffic management equipment required for your workload, as well as following maps and schedules to place and remove signs in their correct locations. As you travel from job to job, you’ll utilise all your knowledge of the national road network, training and safe systems of work to complete your tasks.

Special Conditions:

  • Annualised hours – you’ll be paid the same salary each month, but your working hours will flex to meet the demands of the operation. This could mean for example - 5 hour days in the winter and 11 hour days in the summer
  • Working patterns and rest day schedules are irregular but flexible, linked to the requirement to operational commitments during the peak summer event period.
  • You will be required to work outdoors on the highway and also on event sites in all weather conditions without supervision.
  • A significant degree of flexibility and understanding of the business working pattern is needed to ensure that new employees can successfully adapt and fully integrate.

We’re always looking to recognise and reward our employees for the work they do. As a valued member of The AA team, you’ll have access to:

  • Your own branded van, full uniform, a phone, tablet and the best available equipment
