Job description

Title: Senior Sonographer

Location: Leicester

Hours: 37.5

Pay: £48,000 – £60,000 per annum

Key responsibilities
  • Provide general abdominal, gynae, pelvic, small parts and vascular/MSK/early pregnancy ultrasound scanning services in conjunction with other sonographers and healthcare professionals.
  • Independently perform ultrasound scanning duties to the required standards of Diagnostic World and client partners and produce a clinical report for each ultrasound scan undertaken.
  • Undertake any administrative duties necessary for speedy progression of patients and patient results e.g. Patient Escalations.
  • Actively participate in matters concerning clinical governance, clinical audit and assessment.
  • Maintain responsibility for continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Undertake any equipment tests as part of Diagnostic Healths's quality assurance program and report any equipment faults to the service manager.
  • Adhere to company policy and procedures in terms of health and safety, data protection and confidentiality and SOPs.
  • Co‑operate in investigations of a complaint or untoward incident and comply with company procedure to that effect.
  • Ensure that professional and technical knowledge/expertise is kept up to date and maintain a portfolio to demonstrate personal professional development.
  • Participate in individual performance review (appraisal) on an annual basis.
  • Hold, and when required, exchange with colleagues, company assets required to carry out the service effectively.
Additional / ad‑hoc responsibilities
  • Second opinion on discrepancy cases.
  • Advice on a complaint/incident.
  • Assist with recruitment lead and introduce new sonographers on an ad‑hoc basis and attendance at BMUS stand.
Requirements and qualifications
  • Full registration with the Health Professions Council (HPC) and fulfil the duties and responsibilities of a healthcare professional as laid out by the HPC and the United Kingdom Association of Sonographers (UKAS).
  • Appropriate level of indemnity insurance cover for the work undertaken on behalf of the company.
  • Successful completion of satisfactory references, DBS and occupational health clearance.
  • Must demonstrate professional and technical competency in diagnostic ultrasound and adhere to company standards.

The employee will be expected to provide a comprehensive diagnostic ultrasound reporting service to a range of clients and in agreed locations. The employee will enjoy terms based on the agreed Terms and Conditions as outlined in the Diagnostic World practicing privileges contract.

All appointments are subject to satisfactory references, DBS and occupational health clearance being obtained. The appointment is exempt from the provisions of Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 by virtue of the Rehabilitation Act 1974 (Exemptions) Order 1975. Employees are not entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are 'spent' under the provision of the Act, and in the event of employing any failure to disclose such convictions could result in the termination of employment.
