About The Team

The Financial Services (FS) Performance Unit is responsible for designing, building, changing and running technology across all our financial products and functions. It supports Account Management, Credit Risk, Fraud, Debt Management, Customer Payments, Insurance and Retail Credit Products, and will help drive future expansion into new FS products including Personal Loans.

About The Role

As Senior Solution Architect you are expected to help shape architectural design and technology roadmaps for complex applications supporting high volume, mission critical products and services.

Responsibilities include designing solutions across the Financial Services tribe that meet both functional and non‑functional requirements for initiatives. Solutions will be a combination of custom-built software, primarily using AWS, and external providers' SaaS components.

Key duties:

• Analyze existing implementations, including legacy systems, and present options to stakeholders, balancing long‑term strategy and short‑term business value.
• Define roadmaps for domains, describing as‑is and to‑be states and transitionary phases.
• Implement policies and standards for technology delivery, leveraging modern cloud-based practices.
• Assess third‑party providers to ensure solutions meet TVG standards for security, privacy, data integration, performance and reliability.
• Address risks, issues and dependencies, including those outside the team.
• Contribute to strategic thinking and enforce appropriate technology standards.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Delivery and Technical Leads to influence and define technology roadmaps.
• Coach and mentor other architects, technical leads and engineers.
• Communicate complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences and stakeholders at all levels.
• Represent the architecture community at large audiences inside and outside The Very Group.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

• Demonstrable experience in designing complex solutions balancing strategic direction and business delivery.
• Experience defining roadmaps and influencing, communicating and guiding stakeholders.
• Conceptual and strategic thinker.
• Technical expert with good interpersonal skills, able to work independently.
• Thought leadership and critical thinking in the technical space, applying business context.
• Proficiency in Java & Amazon AWS.
• Bonus: Spring Boot, Oracle DB, Terraform, React, AWS API Gateway, AWS RDS.
• Domain experience in Financial Services, preferably Retail Financial Services / Banking / Insurance / Credit / Loans.
