Job description

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a leading construction and infrastructure delivery environment. The Senior QS will take responsibility for the commercial management of one or more projects, ensuring cost control, value optimisation, and effective contractual administration throughout the project lifecycle.

This role offers exposure to complex, high-value projects and the opportunity to play a key role in commercial leadership and team development.

Key Responsibilities
Commercial Management
  • Lead the commercial management of projects from pre-contract through to final account
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost reporting
  • Produce accurate cost value reconciliations (CVR) and commercial reports
  • Maximise profitability while maintaining contractual and commercial compliance
Contract Administration & Risk
  • Administer contracts in line with agreed terms and conditions (e.g., NEC, JCT, bespoke forms)
  • Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities
  • Prepare, submit, and negotiate variations, claims, interim applications, and final accounts
  • Support dispute avoidance and commercial resolution where required
Procurement & Supply Chain
  • Lead procurement activities in accordance with company procedures
  • Manage subcontractor and supplier accounts, including valuations, payments, and final accounts
  • Develop and maintain strong supply chain relationships to drive value and performance
Stakeholder & Project Support
  • Act as the key commercial interface with internal project teams and external stakeholders
  • Provide commercial advice and guidance to site and project teams
  • Participate in commercial meetings, reviews, and reporting forums
Leadership & Development
  • Support, mentor, and develop Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors
  • Promote commercial best practice and continuous improvement
  • Ensure adherence to internal commercial governance and procedures
Health, Safety & Ethics
  • Promote a strong health and safety culture within all commercial activities
  • Ensure compliance with ethical standards, sustainability objectives, and responsible business practices
Skills & Experience
  • Proven experience in a Senior Quantity Surveyor role within a main contracting or infrastructure environment
  • Strong working knowledge of construction contracts (NEC preferred)
  • Excellent commercial, contractual, and financial management skills
  • Experience managing complex or high-value projects
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience within a Tier 1 or large main contractor environment
  • Chartered status or working towards chartership (RICS, CIOB, ICES)
  • Sector experience in infrastructure, civils, buildings, or major projects
Qualifications
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline
