Job description

Are you ready to take the next influential step in your career? Stantec is actively seeking dynamic Principal and Senior Urban Drainage Modellers to join our specialist team in Scotland, based in either Edinburgh or Glasgow.

As one of the industry leaders in network modelling across the UK & Ireland, we are committed to driving innovation and technical excellence. This is a chance to secure a pivotal role within an award-winning consultancy, leading complex projects that directly impact water quality, urban resilience, and our critical environmental commitments.

Your Path to Leadership: Diverse Frameworks & Defined Development

At Stantec, we offer a career that is rich in challenge and defined by opportunity.

You will leverage our established reputation and robust pipeline of work across a wide range of major regulated water company frameworks. The sheer variety of projects - from conception through to delivery - will ensure your skillset continually evolves at the forefront of the industry. We provide an individualised development plan linked to a clear company-wide structure, ensuring a defined pathway for progression whether you join us as a Senior or Principal Modeller. You will be empowered to become a key technical and managerial leader, contributing to our industry-leading portfolio which includes developing cutting‑edge digital solutions and smart applications.

The Role: Technical Authority and People Manager

Joining us at this level means taking ownership and driving results.

Your responsibilities will include spearheading the planning, programming, and coordination of complex urban drainage projects. You will be responsible for establishing and upholding technical governance, delivery excellence, and best practices across all tasks. Crucially, you will play a significant role in the management, mentorship, and technical development of our junior and intermediate modellers, in addition to providing substantial input into cost estimates and the preparation of high‑value bids. You will collaborate as a key contributor within our wider multi‑disciplinary team, operating across the UK and international offices to deliver projects of national significance.

About You: The Expertise We Need

We are looking for individuals who embody technical authority, leadership, and client focus.

You should be degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g., Civil Engineering). We require proven, extensive experience leading major projects within the urban drainage environment and an expert working knowledge of InfoWorks ICM. You must have demonstrated experience in the management, development, and mentoring of staff, coupled with the ability to provide technical leadership to the team. Membership of an industry relevant institution (e.g., CIWEM, ICE) is expected, and experience in data science or digital solutions would be a strong advantage.
