Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of the design, development, testing, and documentation of mechanical assemblies for advanced defence products. You will play a pivotal role throughout the full product lifecycle, from concept and prototyping through to production and in-service support.
Responsibilities
- Define mechanical architecture, systems, and sub-systems, ensuring full validation and verification.
- Develop and deliver robust mechanical solutions for complex, multi-disciplinary systems using advanced engineering toolsets.
- Produce and review technical documentation including design reports, data packs, analysis, and procedures.
- Design and implement mechanical test solutions to verify hardware performance.
- Support integration, verification, and acceptance testing, providing evidence to customers and stakeholders.
- Present technical solutions and risk assessments to internal teams and external clients.
- Lead technical work packages and contribute to project delivery.
- Provide in-service and production support as required.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers, supporting their technical development.
- Drive continuous improvement across mechanical design processes, tools, and standards.
Requirements
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Proven track record delivering mechanical solutions across the full engineering lifecycle.
- Strong proficiency with CAD and PLM tools (e.g., Creo, Autodesk Inventor, Windchill, IFS).
- Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles including material selection, assembly methods, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience in complex, multi-disciplinary engineering environments.
- Ability to manage risks, balance technical trade-offs, and deliver on time to specification.
- Eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC).
