Senior / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: London

Job Type: Permanent

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to take ownership of the design, development, testing, and documentation of mechanical assemblies for advanced defence products. You will play a pivotal role throughout the full product lifecycle, from concept and prototyping through to production and in-service support.

Responsibilities
  • Define mechanical architecture, systems, and sub-systems, ensuring full validation and verification.
  • Develop and deliver robust mechanical solutions for complex, multi-disciplinary systems using advanced engineering toolsets.
  • Produce and review technical documentation including design reports, data packs, analysis, and procedures.
  • Design and implement mechanical test solutions to verify hardware performance.
  • Support integration, verification, and acceptance testing, providing evidence to customers and stakeholders.
  • Present technical solutions and risk assessments to internal teams and external clients.
  • Lead technical work packages and contribute to project delivery.
  • Provide in-service and production support as required.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, supporting their technical development.
  • Drive continuous improvement across mechanical design processes, tools, and standards.
Requirements
  • Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Proven track record delivering mechanical solutions across the full engineering lifecycle.
  • Strong proficiency with CAD and PLM tools (e.g., Creo, Autodesk Inventor, Windchill, IFS).
  • Solid understanding of mechanical engineering principles including material selection, assembly methods, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in complex, multi-disciplinary engineering environments.
  • Ability to manage risks, balance technical trade-offs, and deliver on time to specification.
  • Eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC).
