A leading UK university is seeking a Senior Lecturer in Translation Studies to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. The successful candidate will have a PhD or be nearing completion and will lead the BA (Hons) Applied Languages course. Expertise in translation from Chinese, German, or Spanish is required, along with experience in Translation Theory and Practice. This role also involves research and knowledge exchange activities.

Job description
Senior Lecturer in Translation Studies: University of Portsmouth

The School wishes to appoint a Senior Lecturer to contribute to the School's undergraduate and postgraduate teaching portfolio in the field of Translation Studies.

Applicants will be a native or near native speaker of English, able to translate from Chinese, German, or Spanish into English. They will be expected to have the ability to contribute to language teaching in their other main language. Applicants will be expected to have proven experience of teaching Translation Theory & Practice, Specialised Translation, Research Methods and dissertation supervision. Areas of specialism that are particularly welcome are sub‑titling, translation technologies or corpus linguistics.

The successful candidate will be expected to take on the Course Leadership of BA (Hons) Applied Languages within the full‑time undergraduate provision, contribute to campus and distance learning programmes at postgraduate level, and undertake high quality research / knowledge transfer. A PhD (or nearing completion) is essential. The successful candidate will be research and/or knowledge exchange‑active. S/he will be expected to contribute to the School and/or the Centre for European and International Studies Research's (CEISR) profile in these areas. CEISR is the largest interdisciplinary centre for research on Europe and the wider world in the UK and was ranked first for research power in the 2008 RAE.
