Job description

We're looking for a Senior Estimator to join our Eastern South Construction team based in Witham, Essex.

Responsibilities

The role of Senior Estimator is to support the generation of profitable tenders for authorisation and submission, to maximise the order pipeline and its conversion into market share, revenue and operating profit within the business unit. You will estimate the costs of projects, determine contractual, financial, technical and operational risks and to find opportunities to minimise risk and maximise gross profit. You will support the fulfilment of the pipeline of contracts safely, on time, and to the required quality while maximising gross profit and customers' satisfaction.

Duties and responsibilities within the role will include
  • Contribution to the generation of tenders, proposing costs and estimate resources for projects
  • Lead, manage, and motivate the estimating team on projects by promoting best practice.
  • Participation in the winning of contracts while minimising risk and maximising profit by estimating the costs for tenders, negotiating with suppliers and subcontracts, and supporting value engineering.
  • Contribute to the process of assessing, preparing, validating, adjudication, and final submission of tenders. This includes minimising subcontractor and material costs, communicating with design, planning, commercial and bid management functions.
  • Estimate costs in order to meet or exceed customer requirements, including obtaining and negotiating quotes.
  • Build and retain commercial relationships with customers, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and subcontractors during the tender and fulfilment process
Who are we looking for?

To be considered for the role, applicants will have construction estimating experience of schemes ideally with a Tier 1 contractor.

Applicants are expected to have the following skills and attributes
  • You will be experienced in our portfolio of projects (Education, Health, MOD, MOD Commercial) with good technical construction knowledge.
  • Extensive knowledge of best industry practices and standards
  • Excellent research, proposal writing and oral presentation skills
  • Experience in working on Single and Two Stage Tendering
  • Experience working for a Tier 1 contractor on large schemes
