***PLEASE NOTE THIS ADVERT CLOSES THE DAY BEFORE ANY AUTOMATED DATE SHOWN – PLEASE REFER TO THE CLOSING DATE IN THE BODY OF THE ADVERT*****Job Title: Senior Engineer - Power System Simulations****Location: Glasgow, SPHQ****Salary From £53,280 to £66,600 + Excellent Benefits and Pension*****Help us create a better future, quicker***To carry out power system studies and analysis to assess various aspects of network and generator performance, including network capacity, voltage control and fault levels, as required by license standards and codes.This will ensure a safe, efficient and reliable grid that will support the UK in it’s target to Reach Net Zero.***What you’ll be doing**** Assessment of the transmission system for compliance with planning and operational standards such as the SQSS, by carrying out network studies and evaluating the results.* Contribute to the creation, maintenance and validation of transmission network analysis datasets.* Contribute to the development of Electromagnetic Transient Models (EMT) Root mean Square (RMS) models and using them to analyse network scenarios* Support connection application and network planning processes by evaluating various project alternatives.* Liaise with customers about their network connection, particularly with regard to code compliance aspects.* Contribute to challenging projects, such as the use of new technologies or the investigation of network disturbances.* Take part in industry working groups to review standards and codes such as the SQSS, the Grid Code or documents produced by the Electricity Networks Association (ENA).* Provide engineering support across SPEN.* Contribute to the preparation of industry publications such as the Electricity Ten Year Statement (ETYS) and the Network Options Assessment (NOA).***What you’ll bring**** Experience in power system analysis and design.* Good communication skills with the ability to write clear reports and give informative presentations.* Working towards chartered membership of the IET or equivalent.***Good knowledge of:**** Power system analysis, including load flow and fault calculations.* Electrical characteristics and performance of power system equipment.* EMT modelling of classic power system elements and converter-based systems* Power electronics control for grid connected applications including wind turbines, batteries, HVDC and FACTS* Stability assessment of modern power network using the impedance method or eigenvalue analysis***Working knowledge of:**** At least one power systems analysis software package.* The GB SQSS and GB Grid Code.* Processes and procedures associated with the SO-TO Code (STC).* Regulatory requirements impacting on SPEN.* Connection requirements for on- and offshore transmission systems.***Awareness of:**** Commercial issues related to transmission and energy networks.* Customers and an ability to meet/exceed customer expectations.***What’s in it for you***As well as a competitive salary which is reviewed annually, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits.
