Job description
Senior Designer

We're looking for an experienced event professional to join our team as a Senior Designer. This key role requires boots-on-the-ground events experience, CAD skills and a general passion for all things events and tech!

About Us

We make planning events easier by mapping out events in CAD and in the fields, with great design and industry leading knowledge.

We’re an Event Design Agency with a team of industry-leading designers who specialise in highly detailed topographical site surveys, precise CAD plans, and accurate mark-outs that facilitate spectacular events of all sizes. Our clients include festivals, music events, shows, public events, trade shows and sports events.

We streamline event planning by putting collaboration at the heart of everything we do. We make our clients’ plans work harder for them - proving that site plans can be accurate and visually impressive too.

Role Overview

The Senior Designer is a central role that is able to set the standard for the output at ESD. You will be confident in AutoCAD, be able to problem solve and push forward the design process.

Alongside this you will have a great understanding of site design and the implications of design choices based on real-world experience - supporting our clients to make the best of their venue, budget and event.

While a remote business the role includes event surveys, mark-outs and on-site client meetings so you need to be able to travel and cope with physically strenuous tasks.

Finally, there will be an element of portfolio management, team and task scheduling but not line manager responsibilities.

What You’ll Be Doing

As Senior Designer you will report directly to the Manager and will work closely with the rest of the Design Team.

As a small business there are opportunities for responsibilities to develop over time as the business matures.

The current responsibilities include:

Design
  • Producing detailed CAD site plans
  • Tasks are likely to include designing initial event concepts, minor client amendments, sales team updates and site redesigns
  • Use your operational knowledge of events to interpret a client’s site design needs, including suggested improvements where appropriate
  • Contributing to client meetings & site meetings as required by the team
  • Upholding the design standard
  • Maintaining ESD documentation including templates, block library and client design standards
  • Carrying out internal reviews on site plans before they are issued to our clients
  • Managing client accounts end-to-end
Survey and Mark-Out
  • Completing site surveys and mark-out as per client scope of works. You may be required to:
  • Prep DWG files in advance
  • Use GPS or 3D scanning device to survey the required area
  • Compile a post-survey or mark-out report and add annotated survey data into working DWG files
  • Use GPS hardware to ensure high accuracy of mark out
  • Walk up to 20,000 steps a day on a Mark-Out
Senior Designer Portfolio Management
  • Overview and support of the design portfolio
  • Supporting the Manager and Sales Executive with reporting on where clients are at in their process and any additional needs they might have
  • Scheduling tasks and people resource to make sure that nothing is dropped
  • Supporting the Manager to make sure systems are followed
Who You Are

This role requires a variety of skills and technical experience, a genuine interest in live events and a good grasp of how 2D plans translate into the real world.

Essential
  • 5+ years hands-on event operations experience
  • This will give you the events language to understand the world we work in and help you to deliver design that matters and solves problems for our clients
  • 3+ years design and/or CAD experience
  • We work in AutoCAD so a solid working knowledge of its core package is desired though onboarding to our system will be provided
  • An understanding of data extractions, dynamic blocks and having worked with survey data would be an advantage
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • As a remote business this is key to not only our clients but also to ensure positive and clear comms internally
  • Organised, efficient, technically minded
  • You must be self driven and able to work on your own initiative
  • Able to problem-solve and research solutions
  • As a small business we need people that are problem solvers and are able to follow systems and processes, but also look to improve them
  • UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • UK based and legally able to work in the UK
  • Stable and fast internet connection
Desirable
  • IOSH (or other industry equivalent) qualifications in crowd management or events safety
  • Experience or knowledge of topographical survey data
  • Understand the importance of accurate site survey and site validation work
  • Understanding of how a site mark-out is carried out
  • Experience improving workflows
Our Offer
  • A full-time permanent position, starting with a 6-month probationary period
  • A salary of £37,000 + per annum, based on experience and best fit with the job requirements. There will be potential for growth as you contribute to the company’s success
  • 37.5 hours per week, based around core operating hours of 10:00 - 14:00 (UK)
  • Remote working environment, meaning you can work from anywhere you choose as long as the job requirements are met
  • Flexible working hours, balancing remote work with quarterly team meetups and site visits, tailored around business needs and project demands
  • Provision of equipment required for the job
  • Access to training on core software, equipment, and systems
  • Job share considered
