Job summary

A prestigious automotive company in Silverstone is seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer to create engineering CAD schemes and detailed component designs. The successful candidate will work across multiple projects, ensuring high standards and contributing to technical specifications. Candidates should have over 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering and strong CAD skills, preferably with Catia 3D.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, ideally in a motorsport design office.
  • Strong CAD knowledge and experience with part and assembly design.
  • Knowledge of FEM calculations and stress analysis.

Overview

A fabulous opportunity for an experienced, Senior Design Engineer to join the small yet growing, dedicated and talented team at Lola as we embark on the next phase of the adventure. The role will primarily create engineering CAD schemes, detail component designs and drawings following Lola design and engineering guidelines. Flexibility to work across more than one project as required, Senior Designers will work with Design Team Leaders and Technical Project Leaders to define and maintain the Project Technical Specification and project plan.

Role Responsibilities
  • Creation of engineering CAD schemes
  • Detailed component designs and drawings
  • Flexible to work across more than one project as required
  • Ensure all design output is of a high standard and meets Lola requirements, standards and guidelines
  • Contribute to project technical specifications, project plan and budget in collaboration with Design Team Leaders and Technical Project Leaders
  • Provide regular updates to the Project Mass Tracker and inputs to the Project Report
  • Assist with managing technical activities carried out by external suppliers for design, development and production – ensuring technical, quality and budgetary requirements are met
  • Support technical management - defining and selecting internal and external resource requirements
  • Work with Technical Specialists to optimise designs within technical, timing and budget constraints
  • Contribute to Design Review Meetings and attend regular Project Review Meetings to develop designs in line with project requirements
  • Contribute to: FMEA process, Project Faults and Project Technical Operating documentation, Build Manual, Torque List, Operating Limits, Component Maintenance and Lifing Schedule
  • Propose rig and track test activities
  • Provide design and technical information as required by relevant Governing Bodies
  • Ensure all design and technical documentation is saved in a disciplined, well-organised manner and that Lola team members have access to the information they require
Technical Skills Required
  • 5 years minimum experience in mechanical engineering, ideally in a motorsport design office or comparable environment working with high-performance parts
  • Strong CAD knowledge and experience (Catia 3dx preferable) (3D and 2D proficiency):
  • Part design, assembly design, proprietary component specification and stress analysis
  • Experience of FEM calculations
  • Knowledge of PLM System (Dassault 3d Experience preferable)
  • Proficient PC skills

Qualifications & Experience Required
  • Degree Level or commensurate work experience
  • Mechanical, Automotive or Aeronautical engineering degree desirable but not essential
  • Project Management experience desirable but not essential
  • An interest in and understanding of engineering/motorsport
The Successful Candidate Might Be
  • An existing Senior Design Engineer in a motorsport/automotive company
  • A Design Engineer who has acquired the appropriate experience, skills & knowledge
  • An experienced engineer with the relevant skills and knowledge
Role Location & Hours

The role will be based at the Silverstone Lola Facility with the potential for some flexibility for remote working. 40 hrs a week, normal working days Monday to Friday, 8 hours a day.
