Overview
Senior Consultant - Asset M&E (water risk assessment) role at Tetra Tech Europe. Tetra Tech is a leading technical, engineering, and environmental consultancy delivering data-driven solutions in water, environment, infrastructure, energy, and international development across the UK and Europe. This role involves conducting detailed surveys and assessments of mechanical and electrical assets across client sites in the UK, with regular travel required. You will be a proactive member of the Asset Management team, undertaking survey work as directed, collaborating with other teams to present a seamless client experience, and ensuring delivery of professional, exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities
- Knowledge and practical experience in conducting water risk assessments, including legionella risk assessment, identifying potential water system hazards within MEP assets, and recommending risk mitigation measures.
- Experience preparing detailed water risk assessment reports and liaising with maintenance and compliance teams to implement corrective actions.
- Perform comprehensive on-site surveys of mechanical and electrical building services assets (HVAC, electrical systems, fire protection, plumbing, lifts).
- Accurately record asset condition, specifications, and lifecycle data using digital tools and asset management software.
- Assist in maintaining detailed asset registers and data analysis to inform asset lifecycle and maintenance planning.
- Provide technical insight and produce clear, concise survey reports with recommendations.
- Collaborate with engineering, facilities management, and client teams to ensure asset data accuracy and compliance.
- Assist in budget forecasting and asset replacement planning.
- Comply with health, safety, and security protocols, including preparation for and maintenance of SC clearance where required.
- Stay informed on industry best practices and advances in M&E systems and asset management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Conduct in-depth water safety evaluations in line with UK guidelines (ACOP L8, HSG 274, HTM/SHTM).
- Conduct risk assessment visits, accurately recording data to produce detailed risk assessments.
- Provide expert advice to clients and recommend remedial actions.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical building systems.
- Experience with asset management software and digital survey tools.
- Understanding of relevant regulations, standards, and compliance requirements.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and excellent written communication.
- Willingness to travel regularly across the UK (including London, Leeds) with some international travel and overnight stays as required.
- Proven experience as an M&E surveyor or similar role within asset management or building services engineering (up to 3 years).
- Knowledge of the MEP/building surveying market.
- Proficient IT skills to ensure timely delivery of reports and deliverables.
- Deliver professional and exceptional service to clients.
- High degree of self-direction, assertiveness, and eagerness to learn.
- Eligible and willing to undergo DBS (CRB) and SC checks if required.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience in water safety and risk assessment.
- Solid understanding of UK water hygiene regulations.
- Exceptional communication, organization, and report-writing skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
Desirable
- Hold City and Guilds or Water Management Society qualifications in legionella control and risk assessment of domestic water systems.
- Strong background in building services engineering, either as a tradesperson or through an M&E design career, with knowledge of engineering plant and building services standards.
- Experience in a similar outsourced building services or facilities/asset management role.
- Knowledge of asset management principles.
- Change control experience within projects.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with stakeholders while prioritising project interests.
- Experience with web-based (database) software platforms.
