We are currently seeking a full-time Underwriter based in our Manchester office, reporting to the Underwriter & Team Leader.

The role involves achieving and maintaining a profitable, well-balanced, and growing portfolio with allocated intermediaries and customers to meet the company's long-term trading objectives.

You will provide technical underwriting expertise and guidance to less experienced staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Handling end-to-end cases for the allocated portfolio, working with intermediaries/customers to implement joint business development plans aligned with the company’s trading strategy.
  • Making effective on-site decisions within delegated authority to ensure efficient work completion.
  • Developing strong relationships with intermediaries, balancing their needs with the company’s trading objectives to foster profitable growth.
  • Planning and organizing your work to help the team meet customer service and credit control targets.
  • Identifying and closing business opportunities, collaborating with team members to ensure swift and effective business proposals.
  • Serving as a reference point for issues related to intermediaries/customers or less experienced staff, ensuring high-quality customer service.
  • Maintaining a balanced, high-quality portfolio by effectively utilizing gathered information.
  • Performing other duties as directed within the scope of the role.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Extensive underwriting knowledge in Marine Trade.
  • Understanding of technical underwriting principles and the company's trading strategy.
  • Ability to interpret and utilize management information effectively.
  • Knowledge of the local market.
  • Internal relationships with executive management, team members, underwriters, claims department, and syndicates.
  • External relationships with contacts within intermediaries and customers.
