Job description

We are seeking a compassionate, proactive, and skilled practitioner to join our warm and inclusive mainstream primary school as a Complex SEND Teaching Assistant in Little Hulton, Salford. This rewarding role involves providing consistent, tailored support to two KS1 pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), helping them to access learning, regulate emotions, and thrive socially and academically.

About the Role

In this role, you will work closely with two KS1 learners who each present with unique strengths and complex needs. You will provide both one-to-one support and small group assistance, helping them engage in the curriculum and develop independence.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing personalised strategies in line with EHCPs
  • Supporting communication through visual timetables, PECS, and social stories
  • Assisting with sensory regulation and meeting sensory needs
  • Managing and responding to challenging behaviour in a calm, confident manner
  • Liaising effectively with teachers, the SENCO, and external professionals
  • Encouraging positive relationships and social interaction
  • Recording progress and maintaining clear, accurate notes
About You

  • Experienced in working with ASD or complex SEND needs
  • Skilled and confident in managing challenging behaviour and not fazed by it

  • Able to build strong, trusting relationships with young children
  • Comfortable using visual supports and child‑led approaches
  • A clear communicator with strong teamwork skills
  • Reflective, professional, and committed to supporting every child’s success

Experience in KS1 or primary settings is desirable, but strong SEND experience is essential.
