School Crossing Patrol Officer – St Helen’s Catholic Junior School

Permanent, Term Time. 9.55 hours per week. £13.00 per hour. Location: Brentwood. Working style: Operational field-based worker.

As a School Crossing Patrol Officer you will support schools in the morning and afternoon, ensuring the safety of pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and surrounding locations. The role requires punctuality, reliability, approachability and a willingness to engage with the public.

Responsibilities
  • Protect the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility‑impaired people wishing to use the crossing point.
  • Maintain regular contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
  • Regularly assess risks, identify problems and report defects to the supervisor.
  • Assist in preparing reports on accidents and failures to stop incidents.
  • Maintain uniform and equipment, requesting replacements when needed.
  • Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic, ensuring the road remains clear of pedestrians.
