About the role

Stop! Come and support your local community by joining Essex County Council’s School Crossing Patrol Team as a School Crossing Patrol Officer at Langenhoe Primary School. Support schools once in the morning and once in the afternoon, ensuring the safety of all pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and its surrounding locations. The position is for 7.5 hours per week approximately, with a holiday pay element included. You will need to be available during the 39 weeks of the academic year, for 45 minutes between 08:00 - 09:00 in the morning and 45 minutes between 14:45 - 15:45 in the afternoon, depending on individual site requirements. Uniform, equipment, and training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take into account the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility impaired individuals wishing to use the crossing point.
  • Maintain regular contact with the schools attended by children using the crossing.
  • Regularly assess the risks associated with operating at the crossing site, identify problems and report defects to the supervisor.
  • Assist in preparing reports on accidents and failures to stop incidents and other incidents occurring at the crossing site.
  • Ensure that all uniform and equipment provided is maintained in good condition and request replacements when needed.
  • Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic and ensure that the traffic remains at rest until the road at the crossing point is clear of pedestrians.

Punctual, reliable, approachable, and with a willingness to engage with the public. The role requires the ability to work during the specified times and to maintain confidence in a field-based working environment.
