About The Role

£13.00 per hour
Location: Hawkwell
Working Style: Community‑based worker

Support schools once in the morning and once in the afternoon, ensuring the safety of all pedestrians crossing the road to and from school and its surrounding locations.

We are looking for a punctual and reliable individual, who is approachable and enjoys engaging with the public.

Position is for 7.5 hours per week approximately, with a holiday pay element included. You will need to be available to work during the 39 weeks of the academic year, for 45 minutes between 08:00 – 09:00 in the morning and 45 minutes between 14:45 – 15:45 in the afternoon approximately, depending on individual site requirements. Uniform, equipment and training will be provided.

Responsibilities
  • Attend school crossings at specified times to ensure the safety of pedestrians.
  • Consider the needs of people with disabilities, especially mobility‑impaired people.
  • Maintain regular contact with schools attended by children using the crossing.
  • Regularly assess risks at the crossing site and report problems and defects to supervisor.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports on accidents and failure‑to‑stop incidents and other incidents occurring at the crossing site.
  • Ensure all uniform and equipment provided is maintained in good condition and request replacements when needed.
  • Give clear signals to drivers when stopping traffic and ensuring that traffic remains at rest until the road at the crossing point is clear of pedestrians.
