Job description

We’ve had a baby boom where 4 of our GPs are away on maternity leave – not contagious – we believe there’s something in the water!

This means we are looking for more calm, capable hands to look after our lovely patients.

We just need you to bring your clinical skills, ability to function after busy clinics, and good vibes and humour to our genuinely friendly team of over 100 staff.

About Us
  • Large practice of approximate 28,500 generous patients who frequently push our HbA1c measures with their gifts of chocolates and biscuits.
  • EMIS Web, Docman, AccurX systems – we get it, no‑one deserves this kind of stress, but it is what it is.
  • Fabulous and supportive administrational staff, including a skilled Medicines Management team, Care Co‑ordinators, and a whizz IT lead who can fix your printer when you’re having a ‘mare.
  • Practice dog – not really, but we do love our animals here at DHG.
What You’ll Get (besides our eternal gratitude)
  • Minimum of 4 sessions per week
  • 15‑minute appointments
  • 12 patient contacts per session
  • Protected admin time
  • Allocated coffee breaks
  • Regular follow up appointment slots just for you to book
  • Innovative ‘Hub’ sessions: giving you the opportunity to work in an open office environment with your peers
  • Six weeks annual leave & bank holidays (pro‑rata)
  • One week study leave (pro‑rata)
  • Mentored by a GP Partner
  • Medical indemnity, GMC membership and other professional subscriptions required to work at DHG are covered pro‑rata
  • Opportunities to get involved with teaching & training. Bristol University Academy GP Prize winner 2025 – just saying!

You’ll never feel hungry at Downend Health Group! Our partners will make sure you are well fed and watered whilst at work. Tea, coffee, squash, and fresh fruit are freely available, there’s even cake and biscuits for those with a sweet tooth.

Does your commute get you hot and sweaty – don’t fret, we have shower facilities at both locations.

Two large scale social events every year when you can put on your dancing shoes and party the night away or show off your IQ in a local pub quiz.

We know you are a very important person, and we’ll never forget your birthday.

You are (we hope)
  • GMC registered and on the NHS Performers List
  • A team player who loves general practice, values work‑life balance and enjoys the odd social gathering
  • Confident in your clinical work and compassionate with people
Nothing ventured, nothing gained - what are you waiting for?
  • We can’t promise fame and fortune, but we can offer solid support, fun and kind colleagues and if welcomed, a hug on the tough days.
  • Feeling a little unsure? Come and have an informal visit and meet the teams.
  • Apply now before someone else gets your clinical room and space in the staff socials. Send your CV and covering letter to dhg-hr@nhs.net
