We are the national gas network, providing secure energy to power Britain, achieve net zero, and maintain our industrial competitiveness.

About the Role

As a Mechanical Rotating Machinery Engineer, you’ll be instrumental in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our fleet of gas turbines and compressors that power the National Gas Transmission System. Operating regionally across the Scotland & North region, you’ll act as a vital technical link between site operations, maintenance teams, regional projects, major programmes, and central engineering.

What You'll be doing
  • Manage day-to-day engineering and operational support for gas generators, power turbines, gas compressors, and their ancillary systems across the Scotland & North region.
  • Support troubleshooting and fault diagnosis of complex rotating machinery issues.
  • Oversee fleet management activities including OEM service bulletins, oil sampling, borescope inspections, engine logbooks, and spares support.
  • Act as the first point of contact for rotating machinery operations support, collaborating with OEMs and ISPs.
  • Work closely with site teams and central engineering to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality maintenance interventions.
  • Lead investigations into equipment failures and reliability issues, recommending long-term improvements.
  • Support condition monitoring, vibration analysis, and performance trending.
  • Lead and provide technical support for compressor overhauls and major rotating machinery projects.
  • Contribute to outage planning, dry gas seal replacements, and major engine inspection scopes.
  • Provide technical assurance and ensure compliance with engineering standards, regulations, and best practices.
  • Champion continuous improvement, innovation, and knowledge sharing across the rotating machinery discipline.
About You

You’ll be confident working in operational environments, building strong relationships with site teams and delivering pragmatic engineering solutions. You’ll bring a proactive mindset, a collaborative approach, and a passion for continuous improvement. Your ability to communicate technical insights clearly and support others will make you a trusted advisor across teams.
