Overview

Register your interest in becoming a GC Analyst - Bedford. Join to apply for the GC Analyst role at RPS. RPS is looking for GC-MS Analysts to join our Laboratory in Bedford. This is an analytical role based in the gas chromatography section.

As an Analyst, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of various instruments. You will ensure that samples are analysed in a timely manner by scheduling time on instruments and communicating with extractors and senior analysts to ensure an efficient process. You will review results and highlight any anomalous results and provide support to senior analysts.

What you’ll be doing and the responsibilities below follow established procedures to perform trace organic analysis on a wide range of samples/matrices.

What you’ll be doing
  • Follow established procedures to perform trace organic analysis on a wide range of samples/matrices.
  • Operate primary assigned instrumentation within the GC section.
  • Process and interpret analytical results for entry onto LIMS.
  • Apply correct QC requirements for analyses.
  • Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of analytical equipment.
  • Maintain accurate data records.
  • Maintain a safe working environment in accordance with company policy.
  • Follow company Quality Policy.
  • Raise QC queries and non-conforming work as needed.
  • Prepare samples, solutions and reagents following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.
  • Work with extraction staff to ensure samples are prepared for analysis according to customer requirements.
Who we’re looking for
  • BSc in Chemistry or closely related subject or equivalent industrial experience.
  • Demonstrable experience working within an accredited analytical testing laboratory, ideally within the environmental or food sectors.
  • Experience of sample preparation techniques e.g. liquid/liquid extraction, solid phase extraction etc.
  • Flexibility in analytical approach and ability to cope with high throughput and varied analysis in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent time management skills, attention to detail and ability to cope under pressure.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of and experience using single and triple quadrupole GC-MS systems would be advantageous.
  • Experience using Agilent Chemstation and Masshunter software and Microsoft Office is desirable.
