Our work supports government reform of the rail industry, ensuring that it better serves passengers, taxpayers and transport companies.

Our advice spans long‑term strategy, integrating rail into future generations’ transport mix, and short‑term assurance across a wide range of technical disciplines. With a strong workflow of high‑profile project opportunities, we are growing our team to support exciting workstreams that help clients deliver transformative change.

Requirements
Essential
  • Understanding of the GB Rail industry
  • Adaptability to work across different disciplines, including commercial (revenue and costs), operational, business case and appraisal, programme delivery and technical assurance
  • Ability to work as part of a team, and confidence to make technical decisions supporting project delivery
  • Experience analysing large datasets using Excel to support work such as industry revenue data, mobile network data and train performance data
  • Ability to coach and develop junior staff in technical areas
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting project work to clients
  • Ability to present complex technical analysis to a range of audiences
  • Experience managing small to medium‑sized projects or major workstreams
Desirable
  • Experience working in the rail industry
  • Experience using coding languages/software (e.g., R, Python, PowerBI, Tableau) for the analysis/presentation of large datasets
  • Ability to coach and develop junior members of the team
  • Demonstrable contribution to improving technical approaches to delivering work
  • Experience supporting bid development and work‑winning

Compensation

Steer is committed to ensuring that all its employees are compensated a fair, livable wage. All initial compensation, regardless of location, may be subject to change as skills, abilities, internal equity and geographic location are taken into account. In addition to base salary, all employees will be eligible for an annual discretionary performance bonus. Please review the benefits section for more information on total reward. Steer reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional compensation.

Work Environment

All full‑time employees are encouraged to spend 60% of their time either in the office or on‑site with clients. An employee’s typical work week consists of 37.5 hours. Hours, expectations, and exemption status will be adjusted for any applicant seeking a part‑time opportunity. Part‑time and flexible working applications will be considered.
