Radiotherapy Engineer – South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

We are seeking to recruit a Mechanical/Electronic/Electrical Engineer to work in the Radiotherapy Physics section of the Department of Medical Physics, based at The James Cook University Hospital.

South Tees is a high performing Trust, employing 9000 staff, providing acute and community services. We pride ourselves on excellence and are situated at the heart of a great place to live. The department comprises 44 scientific and technical staff.

The department prides itself on delivering state-of-the-art treatment techniques to our patient population and research and development is actively encouraged. This post is part of a team of 13 physicists, 3 technologists and 4 Engineers working in radiotherapy physics.

PLEASE NOTE: Interviews will be face-to-face and not virtually and will involve a practical assessment as part of the interview.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be multi skilled with electronics/mechanical engineering as a primary discipline and should be enthusiastic and highly motivated, joining our existing Radiotherapy Engineering Group (REG), to help maintain and repair our state-of-the-art X-Ray Linear Accelerators and CT imaging equipment.

The department has six Elekta linacs (all equipped with FFF technology) and will soon install a new kV unit. Pre-treatment imaging consists of two Siemens wide bore CT scanners with associated ProSoma virtual simulation software. Treatment plans are produced using Raystation and Monaco. We have an active brachytherapy service, treating a variety of sites using our Nucletron remote after-loading brachytherapy unit.

Exceptional individuals without the required qualifications/experience are welcome to apply - you may be suitable for appointment under Annex 21 Agenda for Change terms and conditions. This path involves following a structured training program of up to 3 years to achieve the required qualifications and skills.   • Evidence of good engineering skills and completed project work in at least one of the following areas: high power RF microwave and x-ray generation; high vacuum systems; motor control systems; electronic position sensing and control; networking; software maintenance/upgrades; analogue servo control; data acquisition and display; advanced digital imaging; mechanical engineering
  • Evidence of written reports and presentations.
  • Highly specialised data analysis skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Working in a clinical environment.
