Overview
We are seeking a part‑time RVN to work 30 hours per week within our radioactive iodine service at the world‑renowned Feline Centre at Langford Vets. The ideal candidate will have meticulous organisational and communication skills, along with a passion for working with cats and supporting caregivers. This part‑time role consists of 30 hours a week, divided across Monday to Friday, and involves working alongside the Feline Centre nurses, animal care assistants and RCVS Feline Medicine Specialists.
Responsibilities
- Organise and book radioiodine orders, including collection of iodine on arrival and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Set up treatment wards and assist with treatment sessions, track patient progress, organise sedations, transfer and restrain patients.
- Organise admission schedules, check the diary, contact caregivers to confirm appointment slots.
- Assist with admission of patients for treatment sessions, communicate effectively with caregivers and provide follow‑up during hospitalisation.
- Provide daily care of cats in the radioiodine wards, assist with in‑patient care and management of hospital records.
- Communicate regularly with caregivers and colleagues, including preparing out‑of‑hours team updates and treatment plans.
- Assist with patient discharge appointments in liaison with primary veterinarians.
- Assist with management of the radioiodine referral bookings and advice email box.
- Perform weekly stock‑takes, manage radioactive iodine waste storage and disposal, maintain spill boxes.
- Assist with radioiodine safety and compliance measures, issue RP3 certificates, conduct audits, waste disposal, calibrate and trouble‑shoot Geiger‑counters.
- Provide necessary training to new and existing staff and maintain training records.
- Ensure that radioiodine wards are well‑maintained and well‑stocked.
- Adopt cat‑friendly clinic principles throughout the SAH.
- Independently carry out nursing duties such as monitoring sedations and anaesthesia, assisting with diagnostic procedures, blood sampling, catheter placement, BP measurement, intravenous fluid therapy and nutritional tube feeding.
- Dispense and administer medication under the direct supervision of a veterinary surgeon, maintain accurate stock control and follow protocols for drug handling; give clear instructions to caregivers.
- Assist with stock control, maintain working areas to a high standard and participate in Clinical Governance and Infection Control directives.
- Maintain accurate patient records covering clinical notes, treatment, diagnoses, caregiver communication and patient information.
- Ensure all procedures and consumables are accurately recorded during patients’ stay.
- Support and assist with the clinical teaching of Veterinary and Veterinary Nursing undergraduates.
- Maintain a good working relationship with all team members.
- Communicate in an effective and pleasant manner with caregivers and colleagues.
- Be flexible to accommodate different hours/days of work with notice.
- Carry out additional reasonable duties as requested by the line manager.
- Ensure personal and others’ safety, report accidents, near‑misses and hazards and adhere to health‑and‑safety requirements.
- Proactively identify opportunities for business improvement and discuss problems to implement sustainable enhancements that increase value for clients, employees and students.
