The role

As a Radiation Shielding Consultant, you’ll be a shielding analyst with a role that’s out of the ordinary. We are seeking a Radiation Shielding Consultant to support our Shielding Discipline Lead in delivering innovative technical solutions across a range of projects. You will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to identify shielding requirements, ensure consistent methodologies, and provide timely support to project stakeholders. Additionally, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of our radiation protection procedures.

Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for developing and delivering radiation models and performing detailed calculations for shielding design, dose assessments, and neutron activation analysis.

  • Prepare high-quality shielding reports and calculation notes, and perform thorough verification of technical work produced by others.
  • Provide supervision and mentorship to junior technical specialists within the shielding discipline.
  • Collaborate effectively within multi-disciplinary teams to proactively identify shielding challenges, ensure consistent methodologies, and deliver timely, expert support to all project stakeholders.
  • Drive continuous improvement by contributing to the development and refinement of shielding procedures and best practices.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week, adaptable and can be delivered from various locations, and provides hybrid working arrangements with two days in the office per week. Possible base office locations include – Bristol, Leicester, Newbury, Warrington, Preston, Cumbria or Humberside.

Essential Experience for the Radiation Shielding Consultant

We will consider candidates at both a Senior or Principal level. If at Senior level we will help to develop into the Principal Radiation Shielding Consultant role.

  • Demonstrated expertise in radiation shielding, with a strong track record in similar roles.
  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience with radiation transport codes.
  • Proven leadership capabilities, with the ability to guide and inspire technical teams.
  • Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills, with experience working across technical domains.
  • A background in designing innovative processes and facilities from concept to implementation.
Qualifications for the Radiation Shielding Consultant

Degree in a relevant scientific or engineering technical discipline.

Security Clearance
