As a Public Affairs Manager at Heathrow, you will build strong external relationships on behalf of Heathrow and be able to effectively engage with parliamentarians across all political parties. As part of the Communications function, the role holder will also work closely with colleagues across the department to support proactive campaigns and policy activity. The Public Affairs Manager will be a confident advocate for Heathrow externally and will be able to understand and champion core business priorities, key policy asks, and the business model and operation of the UK’s busiest airport.

Your role will involve
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with a wide range of parliamentarians and other external stakeholders on behalf of Heathrow.
  • Support the activation of proactive and reactive communication strategies to protect and enhance the reputation of the business.
  • Organise and attend meetings, events, and visits of the airport to strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, develop a clear understanding of the role Heathrow plays in the national economy, and inform on key business priorities.
  • Scan the political horizon for issues relevant to Heathrow and proactively develop strategies to address them.
  • Draft briefings for internal and external stakeholders on a range of complex issues in an easy-to-understand and straightforward manner.
  • Be part of an on-call team responding to incidents at the airport to ensure key stakeholders are kept informed throughout assessments process.
These skills are essential
  • Demonstrable understanding of the parliamentary process and ability to engage with politicians from across the political spectrum.
  • Parliamentary experience (desirable).
  • Demonstratable experience with External Stakeholder Management.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to understand complex information and present it in a way for the public.
  • Excellent team player and takes a proactive approach to updating and sharing information with colleagues.

Working Location

Our Hybrid working approach offers the opportunity for colleagues in some roles to work from home for an average of two days a week, providing the flexibility to work in an agile way whilst ensuring we deliver for the operational needs of Heathrow . Working arrangements vary from team to team and will be confirmed during the recruitment process. You’ll need to be based in the UK and within a commutable distance to Heathrow.
