# Professor of General Practice(UK Visa Sponsorship)### Job Description## Role SummaryBrighton & Sussex Medical School (BSMS) is seeking an experienced practising GP to join the Department of Primary Care & Public Health as a Clinical Associate Professor or Professor of General Practice. This senior academic appointment will contribute to the School’s growing research portfolio and advance both undergraduate and postgraduate education in general practice.Senior academic roles at the Associate Professor/Professor level involve substantial leadership responsibilities, including strategy development, research advancement, high-quality teaching, and active participation in School- and University-wide decision-making.### What You Will DoThe successful candidate will:Lead an independent programme of research aligned to BSMS strengths such as:* global and infectious disease* mental health* cancer* health inequalities* prevention and population health* wellbeing in coastal communities* Contribute to the delivery and enhancement of general practice teaching across the BMBS curriculum.* Provide visible academic leadership and support research-led teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.* Strengthen links with colleagues across the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) Kent, Surrey & Sussex and promote primary care research engagement within the region.* Work with external stakeholders to maintain strong networks for clinical placements, Student Selected Components, and independent research projects.* At Professorial level, demonstrate sustained national and international impact across research, innovation, education, management, and clinical leadership.### About You**To thrive in this position, you will:*** Be a practising GP with a strong academic profile.* Have experience leading high-quality research and a track record of securing funding or developing impactful projects.* Demonstrate excellence in teaching, curriculum design, and student supervision.* Be committed to advancing the discipline through collaboration, leadership, and mentorship.* Champion inclusive, equitable learning environments and support initiatives that widen participation in medical education.* Be capable of contributing to School-level academic leadership roles and strategic development.* Understand the regulatory expectations surrounding medical education and clinical practice.#### About Brighton & Sussex Medical SchoolBSMS is a partnership between the Universities of Sussex and Brighton and .
