Senior Process Engineer – Water Sector

We have exciting plans and are looking for a Senior Process Engineer with experience in Clean Water or Wastewater to join our offices in Brighton, Ashford, Kings Hill or Southampton in the South of England. As a Senior Process Engineer at Stantec, you will provide process design leadership on projects across the multiple clients within the sector. You will be expected to have experience of working on projects at all stages of design life, including process modelling, mass balances, P&IDs, control philosophies and process troubleshooting. You will contribute to the teams’ digital delivery strategy to provide solutions, advice and successful project outcomes for our clients.

Working with our team of global experts, you will use your knowledge and experience to deliver innovative, sustainable, and efficient engineering solutions for our clients and the communities around us. You will also act as a mentor to other Process Engineers and help them to continue their journey to become leaders in their field.

About you
  • Prior experience delivering process engineering design within the water sector with a focus on Clean Water or Wastewater treatment.
  • Likely a Chartered Engineer with a relevant institution and experience of working collaboratively with clients and other stakeholders to deliver innovative process engineering solutions.

Senior Principal Process Engineer – Water Sector

With the AMP8 cycle well underway and delivery intensifying, we are seeking a Senior Principal Process Engineer with extensive Wastewater experience to drive major projects across the South East. This pivotal role can be based in Brighton, Ashford, Kings Hill, or Southampton.

You will serve as a key strategic advisor to our clients, leading the technical execution of ground-breaking Wastewater projects from inception through to construction. Your expertise will be vital in guiding Project Managers, ensuring high-level execution that meets cost, schedule, and quality objectives. Beyond project delivery, you will be instrumental in mentoring and developing our regional team of Process Engineers and nurturing strong, collaborative relationships across our multidisciplinary teams.

About You
  • Desired: A degree in Chemical/Process Engineering (or equivalent) and, ideally, Chartered Engineer status, with demonstrable experience in the water industry.
  • Must possess technical mastery in key process skills, including process calculations, mass balance, control philosophy, commissioning, HAZOPs, and P&ID development.
  • Experience in a design and construction environment is beneficial.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and staff management skills to translate client needs into actionable solutions and foster a culture of continuous learning.

Principal Process Safety Engineer

Job Title: Principal Process Safety Engineer

Salary: £47,241 + depending on experience

What you’ll be doing
  • Completing DSEAR risk assessments and compliance activities
  • Mentoring and developing junior engineers
  • Reviewing and producing explosion safety strategies

Basic Qualifications
  • To qualify for this programme, you must: Be 18 years or over before the start date (September 2026); Have the right to live and work in England (if you are on a visa, this needs to enable you to legally work and reside in England for the entire duration of the programme until September 2030); Have lived in the UK or in the European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 years; Be a resident of the UK for the entire duration of the programme; Not be registered to study on a UK government funded course ending August 2026 or later; Have at least 5 GCSEs C grade (grade 4) or above including Maths and English; Three A levels (or equivalent) at C (grade 4) or above in either Mathematics, IT, Physics, or an Engineering related subject, OR have completed a BTEC level 3 engineering qualification of 180 credits which must include further mathematics; Provide a Statement of Comparability for qualifications obtained outside the UK; Ensure it meets funding eligibility; This apprenticeship assumes you have little or no knowledge/experience of the occupation and is NOT suitable for candidates who already have a similar or higher‑level qualification in the same or similar subject of the apprenticeship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • You have a maintenance or Engineering HNC/D qualification – ideally with a PLC, automation, electronics or electrical bias.
