Job description

An exciting opportunity has opened to join our expanding and highly experienced Private Client Team. The position is to join a fast paced and friendly team based in our Bristol offices.


You will be enthusiastic and will have a good degree of resilience and composure to provide a high quality and professional service to our clients and team members in the department.


You will have a strong focus on being part of a team and valued for your individual contribution, with support to develop your skills and experience in this area of law.


The role

The ideal candidate for this role should have a strong academic background, at least a law degree or equivalent and an interest in this area of law. Prior paralegal experience will be helpful but not essential, full training will be provided.


The successful applicant should be able to manage a busy caseload and possess:



  • A passion for this area of law and ambition to prove their value to a team

  • a clear understanding and ability to apply the principles of estate administration

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • The ability to build strong relationships with clients and team members

  • Ability to work unsupervised within scope of instructions from fee earners

  • A commitment to thorough drafting and attention to detail

  • Solid interpersonal skills and a sympathetic understanding of client needs in this area of law

  • Excellent IT skills with solid use of word and excel


Key responsibilities


  • Dealing with telephone enquiries from new and existing clients

  • Making calls out to clients and third parties on behalf of and at the direction of fee earners

  • Drafting probate applications, Deed of Appointment, Deeds of Variation and preparing inheritance tax returns under the supervision of fee earners

  • Maintaining relationships with clients

  • Producing accurate documentation, reports and correspondence following standard office practices and precedents, to timescales required to meet clients service levels with the agreement of the fee earner

  • Handling and being responsible for full compliance procedures on the files worked on

  • Ensuring that files are maintained in a good order and that clients are kept informed at frequent intervals of progress on matters, including being supplied with periodic case updates

  • Assisting with legal research

  • Opening of New Files

  • Carrying out compliance checks of all new clients

  • Assisting with the billing process including raising billing guides for fee earners and forwarding invoices to clients

  • Dealing with electronic payment forms for fee earners

  • Ensuring work is maintained at a high level of quality throughout so as to promote the reputation of the firm


This role is opened as a full-time role and in office, predominantly in our Henleaze office but with scope to gain experience in all offices.
