Porter / Maintenance Assistant (Ref: 234263)

Substantive

Full Time - 37 hours per week

Band 2 Salary £25,694 - £27,900 per annum

with enhancements paid for Weekend Working

Distant Island Allowance of £2,482 per annum

An opportunity has arisen to recruit within our Estates & Maintenance & Portering departments.

Suitable applicants will be expected to work across all areas within both Estates and Portering Services. A full clean driving licence is essential as duties may include delivering supplies and collecting waste throughout Shetland. There may be the occasional night shift cover for annual leave and sickness, sometimes at short notice carrying out all duties as per the job description.

Portering

Assisting the Portering Team undertaking duties in order to contribute to the provision of the smooth and efficient running of the Portering Service within NHS Shetland. Duties will include transferring and escorting patients and visitors; conveying samples and medical records; working with medical gases; delivering meals, equipment, mail and other items to and from the wards; moving and checking vehicles and transporting waste.

We are looking for candidates with good communication skills who are able to work flexibly under pressure. Initial training and induction takes place in the first few days of starting post, then support from other colleagues will be provided until the new post holder is fully competent in all areas of work, their relevant paper work and procedures. A current full driving licence with no serious convictions is essential for this role.

Maintenance Assistant

Self-motivated persons to assist in carrying out routine maintenance across all NHS Shetland properties.

We are looking for candidates with a good level of general education, you will need experience, or at least an interest in maintenance. Good communication skills, computer literacy, pride in your work and the ability to work alone using your own initiative are all essential requirements. A current full driving licence is required to carry out this role.
