We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Stafford, working as a Plastering Teacher. This position is offered on a permanent, full‑time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Stafford, a notable Category C men’s prison, is situated in Stafford, Staffordshire. Established in 1793, the prison has evolved significantly over the centuries. Initially designed to house a variety of offenders, it has been reclassified multiple times to meet changing demands. The prison’s capacity is circa 750, with most inmates serving sentences ranging from two to four years. The prison offers extensive support and educational programs aimed at reducing reoffending rates.

Role Responsibilities

In this role, you will work with, and be supported by, our amazing team of dedicated professionals to mentor our learners and help them to secure future employment opportunities post‑release. You will need patience, passion, flexibility and understanding in your approach to our learners, who have ‘hit a bump in the road’ but want to learn and improve.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification in Plastering – with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months.
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Have experience creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners.
  • Have a good previous track record of achieving quality targets.
  • Have willingness to engage with and produce accurate and timely reports.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Have an ability to motivate and enthuse learners in the subject matter.
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills to prioritise workload and meet deadlines/targets.
  • Advocate for and engage consistently in positive team working.

The above criteria are listed as essential on the role profile. However, subject to funding and eligibility conditions, there may be options available for applicants with industry experience to complete the required qualifications in‑post.
