Job summary

A support service provider is looking for a Personal Support Worker to assist a young man in Cramlington, helping him remain independent during the day while his main carers are at work. Job description
Personal Support Worker for young adult - 20 hr/wk @ £13.74/hr in Cramlington

We are looking for a support worker to enable an 18-year-old young man, who lives in Cramlington, to remain independent, whilst his main carers are at work.

He enjoys art, animation, animals and most importantly dinosaurs. He enjoys swimming, especially underwater. A physically able and active individual would be preferred for this role to keep up with the young man.

The young man does not have an awareness of risk or danger and requires somebody who can support him to:

  • Build and maintain a social network in the local area
  • Access new activities that are linked to his interests
  • Gain an understanding of independent life skills
  • Build his awareness of risks and dangers in the community
Support schedule
  • During the week (Monday to Thursday)
  • Monday 6 hours
  • Tuesday 6 hours
  • Wednesday 4 hours (temporary in the first instance)
  • Thursday 4 hours (temporary in the first instance)

The support will be during the day, and hours will be discussed at interview.

Requirements
  • Must be experienced at supporting individuals with learning difficulties
  • Be patient and understanding with the ability to adapt the behaviour to meet changing situations
  • Be willing and able to engage in activities the client enjoys. Dinosaurs is a firm favourite
  • A car driver with access to their own vehicle is essential
  • A full enhanced disclosure and barring certificate will be required; full cost will be met by the employer
  • Two references will be requested upon acceptance of the role; one must be your last/most recent employer
