Job summary

A community support organization in Ardrossan is seeking a Part-Time Personal Assistant to provide support for a young man with autism. Responsibilities include companionship, ensuring safety, and assisting in community activities. The ideal candidate will have experience with young adults with autism and possess a driving license. Personal Assistant / Support Worker (P/T)

Hours: 6 hrs per week

Days / Hours: Proposed shifts: 10am – 1pm or 1.30pm – 4.30pm

Days flexible – to be discussed at interview

R.O.P: £12.60 – £13.73 per hr

Responsibilities
  • Provide social support and companionship within the local community for a young man with autism, who lives with his family in the Kilwinning area.
  • Maintain confidentiality as a priority.
  • Ensure safety at all times; supervise him due to limited awareness of danger or road safety and respond quickly as needed.
  • Support access to local community activities including Gym visits and swimmingPool visits (he cannot swim, but enjoys being in the water; assist as required).
  • Foster a friendly, cheerful, easy-going approach; be calm and able to reassure and encourage positively.
  • Assist with car journeys and attending events aligned with his interests (cars, sport, football stadium visits, theatre and costumes).
  • Assist with activities that may require longer hours on occasion to travel further afield to visit stadiums and other venues.

He also loves music and has an interest in theatre and costumes. Over time, his confidence may increase to attend Centre Stage in Kilmarnock.

Personal Care

Minimal – prompting to get dressed properly after swimming, etc.

Experience & Qualifications
  • Experience of working with young adults with autism is essential.
  • Driver preferred: current license, use of own car, business insurance. Wage includes travel allowance; mileage costs covered for travel for work purposes.
  • Must undergo a PVG Disclosure (employer’s expense) and provide 2 references prior to appointment.
  • 6-month probationary period with 1 week’s notice if the post does not work out.
