A community support organization in York is seeking a Personal Assistant to engage and support a 15-year-old with autism. Responsibilities include accompanying him on outings, fostering his independence, and ensuring his comfort during activities. The ideal candidate is calm, reliable, and understands the needs of young individuals with learning disabilities. Experience is a plus, but a willingness to learn is essential.
Jameel is a bright, fun-loving 15‑year‑old with autism and learning disabilities. He communicates using single words and short sentences and responds best to people who are calm, patient, and understanding.
Jameel enjoys going out and about, especially visiting the park, going on the swings, and spending time outdoors. He sometimes finds loud shouting or crying distressing, so he benefits from a PA who can calmly support him and help create a reassuring environment.
Spending time out in the community helps him to cope, stay active, and enjoy positive experiences. Outings also support his independence and preparation for adulthood.
