Job summary

A healthcare organization is seeking a Paediatric Sister/Charge Nurse for the emergency department. You will lead the shift, manage patient flow, and ensure safety standards are met while working collaboratively with the nursing team. Candidates must have at least two years of experience in paediatric nursing and be a First Level Registered nurse with NMC. Job overview

We are looking for a passionate and enthusiastic individual to join our team within the Paediatric Emergency Department here at the Dudley group.

You will be expected to carry out ECG's, wound care, plastering, cannulation, venepuncture and will be supported to carry out these skills competently. You will be responsible for leading the shift, and ensuring that local and national targets are met.

You will support the lead nurse with implementation of improvements and support with data collecting.

The area comprises four medical assessment cubicles, as well as an isolation / treatment cubicle, four minor injury cubicles, and an adolescent room where patients can feel relaxed whilst having the opportunity to access game consoles or age‑appropriate games.

A dedicated paediatric resus room is available to provide 1:1 dedicated specialised care, with the support from the extended paediatric medical team and ward.

With a continually growing nursing team we strive to provide excellent care to our patients and their families.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a paediatric nurse with at least two years experience. Experience in ED would be desirable but is not essential. They will work closely with the ED team, taking charge of the paediatric emergency department and will be responsible for overseeing the department during the shift, including the safe management of patient flow, whilst meeting national ED targets.

The post holder will be expected to take responsibility for coordinating and safely managing the department on a shift‑by‑shift basis.

To triage patients safely, understanding KPIs that embed the safety of our children.

To respond and participate in paediatric resuscitation calls as needed on a shift‑by‑shift basis.

To have knowledge and skills relevant to the clinical setting and be responsible for the delivery of clinical expertise in all aspects of patient care.

To work closely with the children’s ward and PAU in ensuring flow and collaborating working relationships.

To participate in all aspects of children’s safeguarding, knowing how to protect our patients and safeguard them appropriately.
