Help us make a difference as an Operations Assistant Manager.

Manage the day-to-day operations of the SWARF cost centre with a strong focus on Safety, Health, and Environmental priorities. You will drive operational efficiency, maximise financial performance, deliver excellent customer service to both internal and external clients, and develop SWARF’s potential through market-driven innovation. Key responsibilities include managing team performance and development, all measured through site KPIs. Success in this role requires close coordination with the Site Manager and Shift Supervisors, while fostering a proactive team culture.

You will drive operational efficiency, maximise financial performance, deliver excellent customer service to both internal and external clients, and develop SWARF’s potential through market-driven innovation. Key responsibilities include managing team performance and development, all measured through site KPIs. Success in this role requires close coordination with the Site Manager and Shift Supervisors, while fostering a proactive team culture.

Your core responsibilities.
  • Promote a strong health, safety, and environmental culture by reducing incidents, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, and conducting investigations and disciplinary hearings when needed.
  • Ensure operational compliance with permits, licences, and legal standards by avoiding breaches, emissions, and excessive waste stock.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by optimising treatment methods, managing site bookings, and ensuring resources are in place to meet KPIs.
  • Manage site financial performance through regular reporting, and by controlling costs across treatment, labour, and maintenance to meet or exceed budget targets.
  • Lead and support the team by overseeing personnel matters, assigning duties, setting goals, and aligning with the Site Manager on operational priorities.
  • Foster continuous improvement by engaging staff, maintaining high standards, encouraging training, and leading or supporting new project implementations.
Our essential requirements.
Education / Qualifications
  • IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent)
Experience
  • Experience of managing an operational team within the Hazardous Waste industry; ideally a Physical-Chemical Treatment and/ or Hazardous Waste Transfer Station
Technical Knowledge
  • Hazardous waste legislation (desirable)
  • Have a working understanding of ISO 9001,14001 & 45001
