Job description

Position and salary: Part-time, Monday – Friday, 25 hours per week Salary 40k-£55k per annum (dependent on experience).

RSP UK Suction Excavators Limited are specialists in suction and vacuum technology, providing advanced solutions across the whole of the UK. Our suction technology is designed to safely expose buried infrastructure, services, and cables without causing damage, while our vacuum technology excels in handling dry materials, liquids and sludge removal. Serving industries including construction, utilities, waste management and environmental services, we are committed to delivering high‑performance equipment supported by exceptional customer service.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Operational Accountant. This new role will work closely with the Senior Finance Manager and wider Finance team to produce insightful and timely departmental and management information to assist with strategic decision‑making.

Joining a growing and evolving Finance department, we would like the successful candidate initially to get into the detail to understand the key drivers and subtleties of the business by assisting with management accounting and balance sheet control duties. After c.6‑9 months, these duties will then be scheduled to hand over to colleagues in the department to focus efforts on the operational objectives making up the core of the new Operational Accountant role.

Duties and responsibilities:

Phase One – Onboarding & Factfinding (c.6‑9 months):
  • Perform regular daily, weekly and monthly accounting related activities to support operational needs
  • Continually review and maintain balance sheet reconciliations to make recommendations and support operational decision making
  • Prepare and maintain accurate monthly Company and Management Accounts
  • Work closely with non‑finance colleagues to prepare and post journal entries to accurately reflect revenue recognition policy and profitability analysis
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of various financial and reporting systems
Phase Two – Operational Accountant (Ongoing):
  • Prepare and publish periodic departmental and management reporting to business managers and stakeholders
  • Work in partnership with colleagues to build upon operational Finance understanding to identify opportunities/learnings/improvement proposals
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels within the organisation. Interpreting financial data with the ability to present to non‑finance colleagues
  • Continually evaluate and monitor suitability of existing financial tools, systems and processes
  • Undertake ad‑hoc projects as required within the finance team

Comply with all aspects of the company policies and follow published procedures where applicable. Maintain a culture of best practice within the company by attending training courses, both internal and external when and where required.

Qualifications Skills and Attributes Required: Essential:

  • Role would suit Qualified, Part‑Qualified or QBE candidate looking to develop in a hands‑on role
  • Confidently able to communicate with colleagues, stakeholders and customers at all levels of seniority
  • Experience of working as a Management Accountant, Finance Analyst, Finance Manager or similar role
  • IT competent, incl. Microsoft suite of software
  • Experience with Sage 200 (desirable) or similar accounting systems
