Job description

IQ is where the global live music business gets its news. Every day, senior figures across promoters, agents, festivals, venues and related sectors read IQ— and what we publish shapes the industry’s agenda. Now we’re looking for an online News Editor who can lead that conversation.

This is not a passive desk job. It’s a role for a journalist who sees stories before others do, who understands how business decisions ripple across a sector, and who can turn complex developments into must-read reporting. You’ll have the authority to set priorities, break stories, and define what matters in one of the most dynamic entertainment markets on the planet.

What you’ll do

You’ll run IQ’s daily news operation: writing and commissioning stories, editing copy, and overseeing Index — our essential daily briefing for the international live business. You’ll manage a small team of journalists including freelancers, contribute occasional long‑form features to the print magazine, and work closely with commercial and events colleagues to ensure our coverage reflects the business as it evolves.

You will need:
  • Solid experience leading a news desk
  • A forensic instinct for impactful stories and angles
  • A thorough understanding of how businesses work and operate
  • Outstanding journalistic judgment and editorial precision
  • Excellent editing and proofing skills with uncompromising attention to detail
  • First‑class social media and SEO capability
  • A genuine interest in the mechanics of the live entertainment industry
We hope you will have:
  • Experience at a relevant trade title or comparable B2B environment
  • Knowledge of the global music business landscape
  • A track record of launching editorial products or expanding content into new markets
  • An understanding of commercial dynamics and the ability to collaborate with sales teams

Important:This is a business journalism role, and is not suited to candidates whose experience is primarily music journalism or PR.

IQ’s office is in Old Street, London. The team works from the office a minimum of three days per week.

IQis committed to policies and actions to secure a diverse, inclusive and sustainable workforce and sector. We encourage applications from people irrespective of their gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability status or caring responsibilities.
