Do you want to tackle the biggest questions in finance with near infinite compute power at your fingertips?

G-Research is a leading quantitative research and technology firm, with offices in London and Dallas.

We are proud to employ some of the best people in their field and to nurture their talent in a dynamic, flexible and highly stimulating culture where world-beating ideas are cultivated and rewarded.

This role is based in our new Soho Place office – opened in 2023 – in the heart of Central London and home to our Research Lab.

The role

Date: 14 July 2026 – 18 July 2027
Location: Central London
Working hours: 09:00 – 17:30

This is a unique opportunity for a student currently undertaking a sandwich degree in Computer Science, Computer Systems, Cyber Security, Networking or a related field, to spend a year embedded in a high-performance engineering environment.

You’ll join our Colo Infrastructure team, responsible for supporting and maintaining a global low-latency network. Working alongside experienced network engineers, you’ll gain hands-on exposure to enterprise and high-frequency infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on monitoring, automation and incident response.

This role offers real responsibility and the chance to contribute to the operational stability and efficiency of our core network systems – while developing skills across areas such as routing, tooling, automation and infrastructure operations.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Monitoring the health and performance of the network infrastructure
  • Investigating and responding to alerts and live incidents
  • Troubleshooting hardware and software issues, in collaboration with vendors
  • Managing connectivity and service provider issues
  • Handling support tickets and change requests
  • Assisting with the implementation of new interconnects
  • Improving operational tooling using technologies such as Arista CloudVision, Prometheus and Grafana
  • Automating processes with tools such as Python, Ansible, Git and Jenkins
Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for students with strong foundational technical knowledge and a genuine interest in network engineering. You should be studying a degree that includes a placement year and be on track to graduate in 2028.

You’ll be naturally curious, comfortable solving problems and motivated to work in a fast-paced, high-performance technical environment.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A placement year as part of a relevant degree programme, such as Computer Science, Cyber Security or Networks
  • An understanding of switching and routing concepts
  • A structured and organised approach to work
  • Strong communication skills and a team-first mindset
  • Motivation to learn new technologies and contribute meaningfully to the team
  • Progress toward certifications such as CCNA or Network+ is advantageous but not essential

Please note: Due to our focus on developing future talent, this opportunity is only open to candidates graduating in 2028. Applications will be reviewed from September, with interviews starting in October.

Why should you apply?
  • Highly competitive compensation
  • 30 days’ annual leave
  • 9% company pension contributions
  • Lunch provided daily via Just Eat for Business
  • Dedicated barista bar onsite
  • Informal dress code and strong work/life balance
  • Comprehensive healthcare and life assurance
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • Monthly company-wide events
