Men That Meet is a community group for Hertsmere's men - a relaxed place to meet for good conversation, interesting activities, and complimentary refreshments. It is an informal drop-in; men from all age groups are welcome.

Volunteers have many opportunities to support attendees, from talking to facilitating activities. The aim is to provide a warm, friendly, inclusive, and welcoming space. Volunteers are expected to be open-minded and non-judgemental, respectful of attendees' opinions and experiences. Ideally, volunteers should be over 18 years old and demonstrate good levels of empathy.

Location: Indoor

Time of day: Weekday Afternoons

Practical Considerations: Time commitment: From one hour to full sessions; volunteers can attend as long as they can. Currently, meetings are at Windsor Hall, Blyth Close, Borehamwood, on Tuesdays, 1:30-4:30 pm.

Requirements: Will require a criminal record check (DBS)

Suitable for: 18–25-year-olds, 26 and over, University students, Older People

Interested in: Health and Wellbeing, Isolation & Loneliness, Men’s issues, Social Activities, Voluntary & Community Action

Full Description

Main role responsibilities:

  • Be a friendly face and engage in conversation with attendees.
  • Help set up/pack up activities.
  • Make warm drinks and listen to attendees.
  • Help organize and facilitate activities.
  • Provide information about other services.
  • Listen to concerns and signpost to Communities 1st services.

Support:

  • After registration, Communities 1st provides relevant training (e.g., safeguarding).
  • Staff members will be present to run activities and support volunteers.

Safeguarding and wellbeing:

  • DBS check may be required.
  • Risk assessments are conducted for each session.
  • Children attend with adults only.
  • Volunteers offer a friendly ear; if topics are beyond their comfort, they should signpost attendees to staff or other organizations.
  • Attendees may be referred to healthcare professionals if needed.
